This week on the Wiki

Following this week’s oral arguments – the last scheduled for this Term (and the last for Justice Stevens) – we have updated our sister site, SCOTUSwiki, to include new recaps and commentary. To the case page for Rent-A-Center v. Jackson, which was argued on Monday, we have added a preview by Stanford Law School’s Aaron Tang and a recap by Stanford Law School’s Caroline Jackson, as well as a link to the argument recap. To the page for Hardt v. Reliance Standard Life Insurance Co., we have added a transcript and an argument recap by Kyle Maurer, also a student at Stanford. The case page for Monsanto Co. v. Geerston Seed Farms now includes a preview by Stanford Law School’s Josh Patashnik, as well as a link to the argument transcript, and the page for Doe v. Reed now includes Lyle’s preview of the proceedings, a link to the transcripts, and commentary on the argument by both Lyle and Tom Goldstein, as well as links to argument-day podcasts with commentary by counsel for the petitioners and respondents in the case.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Court handed down opinions in three cases, and we have updated the corresponding case pages to reflect these new developments. To the case page for Salazar v. Buono, we have added a link to the decision and commentary written by Lyle Denniston, and the case page for Stolt-Nielsen S.A. v. AnimalFeeds International Corp. now includes a link to the opinion as well, in addition to a recap by Stanford Law School’s Vivian Wang. We have also updated the case page for Merck v. Reynolds to include a link to the Court’s ruling.
We have also updated several case pages this week to include recaps of last week’s arguments and opinions. The case page for Jerman v. Carlisle has been updated to include a recap by Akin Gump’s Jonathan Eisenman (Howe & Russell represented the petitioner in the case), the page for Conkright v. Frommert now includes a recap by Stanford Law School’s Martine Cicconi, and we have added an argument recap by Akin Gump’s Carl Cecere to the case page for Dolan v. United States. (Akin Gump and Howe & Russell represent the petitioner in that case as well, but Carl was not involved in the proceedings.)
On Monday, the Court announced that it had granted certiorari in two cases, Schwarzenegger v. Entertainment Merchants Association and Ortiz v. Jordan, and we have updated our case index for OT10 to include new pages for those cases. We have also added one case, Hogan v. Kaltag Tribal Council, to our list of cases in which the Court has called for the views of the Solicitor General.
The first petitioners’ briefs were due this week for next year’s Term. Briefs were filed in Los Angeles County v. Humphries and Michigan v. Bryant, and we have updated the wiki pages for those cases to include the new filings.
As we do every week, we have continued to update individual case pages to reflect ongoing media and blogosphere coverage. This week, a great deal of the coverage focused on the oral argument in Doe v. Reed and the Court’s ruling in Salazar v. Buono, as well as the cert. grant in Schwarzenegger.
