James C. Duff, a Washington, D.C., lawyer with a long association with the Supreme Court, has been named as the new director of the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts — the housekeeping agency for the federal judiciary. Duff was introduced Thursday by Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., who named Duff to the post. The Court’s announcement can be found here.
Leonidas Ralph Mecham, the longest-serving director of the AO, has retired after more than 20 years of service.
