Today at the Court
Orders from the Justices’ private conference last week are expected at 10 a.m. To see a list of petitions Tom has deemed to have a reasonable chance of being granted, see our latest edition of Petitions to Watch.
Afterward, the Court will hear oral arguments in two cases:
10 a.m. – The Court will hear the separation-of-powers case Free Enterprise Fund and Beckstead and Watts, LLP v. Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (08-861), which challenges the constitutionality of the Sarbanes-Oxley Acts creation of an accounting review board. On Friday, Lyle discussed the issues in the case in his preview for SCOTUSblog.
11 a.m. – At issue in Florida v. Powell (08-1175) is the police duty to expand Miranda warnings before questioning a suspect. Stanford Law School’s Samantha Bateman previewed the case on SCOTUSblog.
