A federal appeals court on Thursday afternoon temporarily postponed a federal judge’s ruling — due to take effect Friday morning — allowing same-sex marriages in Idaho to apply to get married. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said it was delaying that ruling while it studied whether to delay it further. It provided no timetable. The state’s pleafor a delay and other background arediscussed in this post. Idaho officials have said that, if the appeals court refuses to postpone the ruling while they appeal, they will ask the Supreme Court to block it.
