Friday round-up
on May 8, 2015 at 7:58 am
Last week’s oral arguments in the challenges to state bans on same-sex marriage continue to generate commentary. At the Keen News Service, Lisa Keen focuses on a question by Chief Justice John Roberts on sex discrimination, while at Public Discourse James Phillips corrects “six mistakes” from the argument.
Briefly:
- In USA Today, Richard Wolf cites the Court’s recent decision in Williams-Yulee v. Florida Bar, upholding a Florida rule that prohibits candidates for judgeships from personally soliciting campaign contributions, as evidence that Chief Justice John Roberts “remains his own man on the court, willing to form majorities with justices to his right or left.”
- In the National Review, Ed Whelan criticizes recent comments by retired Justice John Paul Stevens suggesting that detainees in the war on terror might be entitled to reparations from the federal government.
A friendly reminder: We rely on our readers to send us links for the round-up. If you have or know of a recent (published in the last two or three days) article, post, or op-ed relating to the Court that you’d like us to consider for inclusion in the round-up, please send it to roundup [at] scotusblog.com.
