Today in the Community: January 3, 2012

Our topic for this weeks Community discussion is the Texas redistricting cases, which involve challenges to the states newly enacted legislative districting maps and the propriety of a federal district courts interim order replacing those maps with maps of its own. The Court is scheduled to hear oral argument on the three consolidated cases next Monday, and time is of the essence: final maps need to be in place by February 1 to take effect in time for the states coming primary elections. Lyle Denniston analyzes the cases here and here.

Our sub-topic for todaytackles the essence of the issue. How do you think the Court should rule? We look forward to your comments today and in the coming week.
