A little excitement in the usually staid courtroom

Near the conclusion of this morning’s patent law arguments in Octane Fitness v. Icon Health & Fitness, as the lawyer for Octane came to the lectern for his rebuttal, a well-dressed man — later identified as Noah Newkirk — stood up at the back of the courtroom and began to speak loudly. He stated, “Corporations are not people, money is not speech. Overturn Citizens United!” Mr. Newkirk has been charged with making “a harangue or oration, or utter[ing] loud or threatening or abusive language in the Supreme Court Building.”
