Holding

The Environmental Protection Agency interpreted 42 U.S.C. §7412(n)(1)(A) of the Clean Air Act, which requires the agency to regulate power plants when "appropriate and necessary," unreasonably when it refused to consider cost when making that decision.

Judgment

Reversed and remanded, 5-4, in an opinion by Antonin Scalia on Jun 29, 2015. Justice Thomas filed a concurring opinion. Justice Kagan filed a dissenting opinion, in which Justices Ginsburg, Breyer and Sotomayor joined.
