McLaughlin authorizes the police to detain an arrestee for 48 hours while they gather additional evidence to persuade a prosecutor to file charges; and (2) whether the Court should revisit the 48-hour time limit it established nearly 25 years ago in County of Riverside in light of technological advances in computer networks and automatic fingerprint identification systems.
