Thursday round-up

Coverage of the Court once again focused on the issue of same-sex marriage – and in particular, which case the Court might review on the merits and when. As Lyle reported for this blog on Tuesday, officials in Utah filed a petition asking the Court to weigh in and uphold that state’s ban on same-sex marriage, while the Virginia attorney general announced in a filing in the Fourth Circuit that he would be asking the Court to strike down his state’s ban. David Savage covered those developments for the Los Angeles Times, as did Marcia Coyle for The National Law Journal and Joel Rosenblatt for Bloomberg News.
Briefly:
- In The National Law Journal’s Supreme Court Brief (registration or subscription required), Tony Mauro reports that “a contentious seven-year dispute over mistakes and delays in the renovation project” at the Court has recently settled.
- At the Pacific Legal Foundation’s Liberty Blog, Timothy Sandefur has the first in a series of blog posts on North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners v. FTC, in which the Court will consider issues relating to the state action exemption from antitrust law; PLF and the Cato Institute filed an amicus brief in support of the FTC in the case.
A friendly reminder: We rely on our readers to send us links for the round-up. If you have or know of a recent (published in the last two or three days) article, post, or op-ed relating to the Court that you’d like us to consider for inclusion in the round-up, please send it to roundup [at] scotusblog.com. Until the end of the summer, we will have twice-weekly round-ups (Tuesday and Thursday); daily round-ups will resume in the fall. Thank you!
