Note to readers: Kennedy v. Louisiana

Briefs, on the question of possible rehearing of Kennedy v. Louisiana    (07-343), are due at the Supreme Court Wednesday afternoon from Patrick Kennedy and from the U.S. Solicitor General’s office.  Kennedy is the Louisiana inmate whose death sentence for raping a child was overturned by the Court’s ruling on June 25.  The federal government was not involved in the case, but it favors rehearing and the Court has invited it to file a brief.  The blog will post the texts of the new briefs as soon as they become available after the 2 p.m. filing time.

The brief of the state of Louisiana is due next Wednesday.  The Court’s briefing order is here.
