Upcoming Arguments: NY Board of Elections v. Torres and United States v. Santos

Today at 10 a.m., the Court is scheduled to hear arguments in New York State Board of Elections, et al. v. Torres (06-766), asking whether New York’s judicial election system, which nominates candidates through a party convention system, violates the First Amendment rights of voters and candidates. Ted Olson of Washington, D.C., will argue the case for petitioner New York State Board of Elections, Andrew Rossman of New York, N.Y., will argue for petitioner New York City Democratic Committee, and Frederick A.O. At 11 a.m., the Court is scheduled to hear argument in United States v. Santos (06-1005), asking whether the term “proceeds” in the principal federal money laundering statute refers to total receipts from illegal activity or just the profits. Matthew D.
