Book Review

Bradford Berenson has this review of a new book by George Liebmann, The Common Law Tradition. The book provides portraits of five law professors who taught at the University of Chicago during the 1960s: Edward Levi (who later served as Attorney General), Harry Kalven, Karl Llewellyn, Philip Kurland, and Kenneth Culp Davis. The review — which appears in the May 2006 Engage: The Journal of the Federalist Society Practice Groups — focuses primarily on the role of legal academics in society and government in particular, but also provides interesting tidbits for Supreme Court watchers, including regarding Levi’s role in the nomination of Justice John Paul Stevens.
