SCOTUSblog was recently honored to receive the 2012 American Gavel Award for Distinguished Reporting about the Judiciary. The award, which was presented to the blog by the American Judges Association at its annual conference in New Orleans, was established in 2009 “to recognize the highest standards of reporting about courts and the justice system”; it was also intended to “highlight[] the importance of journalism in educating the public about the legal system.” Previous winners have included Jan Crawford of CBS News and Ari Shapiro of NPR.
