New Prop. 8 hearing order
By Lyle Denniston
on Nov 26, 2010
Reacting to complaints by the opponents of California’s Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriage that they were given inadequate time to make their case in arguments before the Ninth Circuit Court, that Court issued a new hearing order, adding 5 minutes to their time. The two-hour hearing is set for Dec. 6 in San Francisco.
Under the new order, the first hour — the same as before — will be devoted to whether anyone has “standing” to appeal a federal judge’s decision striking down Proposition 8. The second hour — focusing on the merits of the ban — will provide 20 minutes, instead of 15, for the challengers.
