Al Ginco motion released

A new motion by attorneys for a Guantanamo Bay detainee seeking his release — one of the first moves following the Supreme Court’s ruling June 12 on captives’ legal rights — has been made public after being cleared by a court security officer. The motion involves Abdulrahim Abdul Razak Al Ginco, a Syrian national, who contends that the U.S. military had no valid basis for detaining him nor keeping him confined. The motion asks U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon to allow Al Ginco’s habeas petition to proceed. The motion along with an appendix (the mandamus petition he had pending in the Supreme Court and that was denied Monday) can be downloaded here (large file). This move was discussed on this blog in a post that can be found here.
