This morning the federal government filed its brief in response to an order from Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who on December 31 temporarily blocked the enforcement of the Affordable Care Act’s birth-control mandate against several religious non-profit groups.  The mandate requires employers to provide their employees with health insurance that includes access to contraception, but the non-profit groups in the case object on religious grounds to having to comply with the requirement.  (Lyle posted on the groups’ application and Sotomayor’s temporary stay earlier this week.)
