NEW: Justice Kavanaugh will participate in next week's oral arguments remotely due to his positive COVID test yesterday, SCOTUS spox says. The other justices plan to return to the courtroom for the court's first in-person arguments in a year and a half.
#SCOTUS will not block New York City's COVID-19 vaccine mandate for public-school employees. Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who handles emergency requests from NY, has denied the employees' request to put the mandate on hold while they appeal.
No cameras in the courtroom (as usual) for Amy Coney Barrett's ceremonial investiture this morning, but @Courtartist was there. Here's what he saw.
Justice Sotomayor, a life-long diabetic, was only #SCOTUS member wearing a mask at Justice Barrett's investiture today, per pooler @jessicagresko. Seems likely for oral arguments starting Monday as well. Kavanaugh is a question mark for next week having tested positive Thursday.
The court held a private (and purely ceremonial) investiture for Justice Amy Coney Barrett this morning. Here's a clip of the chief justice walking with Barrett down the steps after the ceremony.
#SCOTUS press release gives us a peek at the Court's protocols: It says he was tested on Monday b/4 the justices' conference & again yesterday ahead of Justice Amy Coney Barrett's investiture this morning. https://twitter.com/AHoweBlogger/status/1443923482941792280
