Today at the Court

At 10 a.m., the Court may release the opinion in one or more pending cases.

Following the release of any opinions, the Court will hear argument in Safford Unified School District v. Redding (08-479), on the constitutionality of strip-searching a student at a public school in search of drugs. Matthew Wright of Holm Wright Hyde & Hays PLC in Phoenix will argue for 25 minutes for the school district. David O’Neil, Assistant to the Solicitor, will argue for 10 minutes for United States as amicus curiae supporting reversal. Adam Wolf of the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation in Santa Cruz will argue for the student.

At 11 a.m., the Court will hear argument in Eisenstein v. New York City (08-660), on the time limit for lawsuits seeking recovery of misspent federal funds under False Claims Act. Gideon Schor of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, P.C. in New York will argue for the petitioners, city employees. Paul Rephen, of the Corporation Counsel of the City of New York, will argue for 20 minutes for the city. Jeffrey Wall, Assistant to the Solicitor General, will argue for 10 minutes for the United States as amicus curiae supporting the respondents.
