And seven of the eight other members of the Court agreed to be interviewed

Which justice refused to be interviewed? Why? Sounds like quite a slight to me.

Sandra Day O'Connor:

Tom Goldstein has a preview of Joan Biskupic's new book on Justice O'Connor. Sounds fascinating.

While I don't wish to take anything away from Justice O'Connor's considerable accomplishments, she was also the beneficiary of fortuitous historical circumstances that happened to put her at the Court's ideological center. Of course, she exploited the opportunity that history dealt her, and for that she deserves due credit. But I do wonder whether the "influential" moniker fails to credit the fact that she was in the right place at the right time. Consider Justice Stevens, for instance, and his remarkable talent for steering the Court despite being on its far left wing. Now, imagine Justice Stevens's influence if a couple of the Reagan appointments had instead gone to Jimmy Carter.
