But I am quite aware of Arlen Specter's actual party affiliation. Despite the letter following his name, Arlen Specter is a flaming, sushi-nibbling liberal. And, no, I do not literally mean Arlen Specter is presently on fire, nor have I seen him nibble sushi. But I am sick of his pompous treachery. The Republican Party would do well to excommunicate the visibly aging man rather than reward his increasingly disloyal politicking with the spot on the Supreme Court he so desperately covets. Sometimes, he gets described in the press as a Democrat because he is liberal on many issues. In some Congressional sessions, he's voted with the liberal Americans for Democratic Action twice as often as with the American Conservative Union. Still, he is a Republican, and he hasn't changed parties yet, like former Vermont Senator Jim Jeffords, or publicly hinted he might do so, like former Rhode Island Senator Lincoln Chafee. And he is not as liberal as Jeffords or Chafee. Actually, Arlen Specter is a Republican.

Sometimes, he gets described in the press as a Democrat because he is liberal on many issues.
