<description>What is happening on the court in death penalty cases is fascinating and not recieving much attention. This term, the court has decided 8 death penalty cases. (One decision is still pending) It has ruled in favor of the state 4 times and in favor of the defendant 4 times. All but one of these decisions was by a 5-4 vote. Most of the reversals in favor of the state have been out of the 9th circuit and most of the reversals in favor of the defendnat are out of the 5th. Given that the court is devoting more than 10% of its docket to capital cases and the obvious division on the court, I don&#039;t understand why this site does not analyze capital petitions?
