Justice Breyer injured in fall

Supreme Court Justice Stephen G. Breyer, 74, broke his right shoulder Saturday morning in a fall from his bicycle in downtown Washington, the Court said in a news release.   He was taken to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital after the accident, and underwent shoulder replacement surgery (an extensive procedure) that the Court said was successful.   He was bicycling near the Korean War Veterans Memorial along the Mall in the capital city when the accident occurred.  The Court provided no further details.

“The Justice is resting comfortably,” the announcement said, adding that “he is expected to be released from the hospital early in the week.”   The Court has finished holding hearings for the current Term, and is now beginning the work on remaining opinions, with a recess for the summer likely in late June.
