Tobacco cases, sorted out

On Saturday morning, the blog will post a lengthy discussion of the seven pending cases growing out of the federal government’s massive lawsuit against cigarette manufacturers — an eleven-year struggle with no end in sight yet.  The Justices are scheduled to consider all seven as a group at their final scheduled Conference of the Term, next Thursday, June 24.  Tomorrow’s post will sort out the background of the cases, and explain what each side — the industry, and the federal government (along with the government’s supporters in the anti-smoking community) — is seeking from the Court now.
